It’s mainly responsible for the sample test and analysis entrusted by the national and international sports departments and organizations and the Anti-Doping Agencies, for developing scientific research on anti-doping; for participating in the formulation of the relevant national anti-doping rules and standards as well as national anti-doping catalog etc.
The lab was established in 1987 and was formerly called the Doping Analysis Center of the Sports Medicine Institute. In 2007, this organization was transformed into the lab subordinated to the China Anti-doping Agency when the China Anti-doping Agency was formed, and usually it’s called Beijing Lab internationally. The lab passed strict examination of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1989 and was qualified for international doping analysis. Afterwards, it has passed relative international qualification exams successfully each year and has retained the doping analysis lab qualification accredited by WADA (formerly called IOC).
Each year the lab tests and analyses approximately 15000 samples, such sample quantity tops the list among the 33 global labs accredited by the WADA. Since it was established, the lab has successfully completed the doping detection works for 2008 Beijing Olympics and all the international comprehensive sports events held in China, such as the Asian Games, East Asian Games, World University Games, and for the individual international games and national games etc.; it has successfully completed the doping detection works for the comprehensive games like SEA Games, etc. and the doping detection works entrusted by the international individual institute.
After the development and construction of more than 20 years, presently the lab has been allocated with a lab building with floorage of over 5000 sq.m. and equipped with more than 30 sets of large-sized modern analytical and testing instruments. The lab currently has 22 staff, most of the technicians have years of experiences in engaging in doping detection, among of which there’re 8 researchers, 4 associate researchers, 7 staff has obtained doctorate, 6 staff has obtained Master degree. The lab has established communication and cooperation relationship with the advanced doping analysis lab in the world and has set up a periodical mutual visit mechanism with other labs and experts.
Along with the development of domestic and international anti-doping work, the forbidden drugs added by WADA each year is on the increase. In order to retain the doping detection qualification accredited by WADA, the lab has developed tremendous in-depth research on detection methods, has undertaken and participated in a number of national and ministry and commission-level scientific research tasks, and has obtained multiple scientific research achievements, including the first prize of National Science and Technology Progress, the special prize and the first prize of the Science and Technology Progress conferred by the State Physical Culture and Sports Commission/the General Administration of Sport of China as well as the special prize conferred by the China Association for Instrumental Analysis.
